At LAWS, we believe the best adoptions happen when we take the time to understand each dog as an individual. By learning about their temperament, energy level, and needs while they are in foster care, we can help create successful matches between dogs and their new families.

There are two ways to bring a LAWS dog home

Foster To Forever (FTF) Puppy Adoption Program

The Foster to Forever (FTF) Puppy Adoption Program is designed for young puppies who are not yet old enough to complete their required spay/neuter procedure and finalize adoption through our standard adoption process.

FTF allows approved Albany County families to bring an eligible puppy into their home as a foster with the intention of adopting. During the FTF period, the puppy remains under LAWS’ care and responsibility while receiving required veterinary care, vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, and their mandatory spay/neuter procedure at approximately 16 weeks of age.

Once all program requirements and veterinary care have been completed, LAWS will finalize the adoption with the FTF family.

Puppies labeled “FTF Only” are eligible for this program.

Dog Adoption Program & Process

Our standard adoption program is designed for older puppies (over 16 weeks of age) and adult dogs who are ready to find their forever families.

Each dog in our program has their own unique personality, history, and needs. Because our dogs are cared for in loving foster homes, we are able to learn more about who they are, what environments they thrive in, and what type of family will be the best fit.

Before adoption, LAWS dogs receive the veterinary care they need to prepare them for their new homes. This includes being spayed or neutered, receiving age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and a microchip.
