Help Laramie’s Community Cats
Caring for Our Community Cats
At the heart of our mission is a simple belief: every cat deserves a life free from suffering. In Laramie and the surrounding rural areas, hundreds of community cats live outdoors. While many of us love seeing a friendly face on our porch, the reality for an unmanaged stray is often incredibly difficult. Without intervention, these cats face a cycle of malnutrition, untreated injury, and the constant stress of competing for territory and survival during our Wyoming winters.
Why This Matters Now
Currently, there are no public programs in the greater Laramie area that address management of community cats. The responsibility falls entirely on compassionate individuals and the Laramie Animal Welfare Society (LAWS). In turn, we are limited by our available resources. We do not receive any public funding to carry out this work. It is entirely based on the goodwill, volunteers, and donations of private individuals like you.
Spring is our most critical window. As the weather warms, "Kitten Season" begins. By acting now, we can stop the cycle of reproduction before it starts. This isn't just about preventing new litters; it's about the health of the cats already here. Spaying and neutering reduces fighting, roaming, and the spread of diseases like Feline Leukemia.
While the presence of community cats is a complex issue that no single organization can solve alone, the immediate need is clear. We cannot overlook the suffering that currently exists; these cats are part of our community, and they deserve both our compassion and active management.
Spaying and neutering is the single most effective tool we have to fight pet overpopulation. Beyond preventing litters, it also:
Reduces fighting and roaming
Decreases the spread of diseases like Feline Leukemia
Eliminates the risk of pyometra (a life-threatening uterine infection)
Significantly lowers the risk of mammary cancer
Helps cats live longer, healthier lives
Your donation goes directly toward medical costs. Because we work with dedicated veterinary partners, we can stretch every dollar to save lives:
Gift Amount - The Difference You Make
$25 - Provides life-saving vaccinations for one community cat
$40 - Covers the partner contribution we ask from our TNR caretakers. Not all community members can afford this cost, and your donation helps ensure a cat is never turned away due to financial hardship.
$80 - Covers the full cost to fix, vaccinate, and ear-tip one cat
$160 - Fixes two cats - preventing dozens of unplanned litters this year
$1000 - Supports a large neighborhood Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) project, helping us fix dozens of community cats and significantly reduce overpopulation in targeted areas.
$2500 - Fully sponsors a 50-cat TNR clinic, covering spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, ear-tipping, trapping supplies, volunteer support, fuel, and food - making an immediate, measurable impact before kitten season begins.
