A Joyful Update for Hex February 4, 2026

It’s time for a happy dance! Hex’s heart procedure was a complete success!

The incredible cardiology team at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital successfully closed the remaining opening in Hex’s heart. He did wonderfully throughout the procedure and had a smooth, comfortable night while being monitored.

This afternoon, Hex will be reunited with his foster-to-forever family and begin the next chapter of his life with a healthy, whole heart. His journey now leads to the best milestone of all—his formal adoption by the family who has loved him every step of the way.

We are endlessly grateful to the cardiology team at CSU for their expertise and compassion, and to everyone who played a role in getting Hex to this moment. We will be sharing a more formal thank-you soon, but for now, please know how deeply thankful we are to our donors, fosters, adopters, and supporters.

After a long road, it’s finally time for Hex to go home.

Pre-Surgery Update for Hex 💙 February 2, 2026

Today, Hex went in for his pre-operation clearance at the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital and, as always, handled it like the champion he is. He made quite the impression on everyone he met—earning plenty of smiles and compliments on his handsome (and notably large) frame.

We received excellent news: Hex responded very well to his first procedure and has been fully cleared to move forward with the next step of his heart repair.

Tomorrow is the big day. The veterinary team will be performing a procedure that is more commonly done in dogs and less frequently in cats due to their smaller size. Fortunately, Hex is a big boy—coming in at a solid 15 pounds—which makes this approach possible. The plan is to close the opening in his heart using a tiny device, and the team is feeling optimistic.

Hex has a big day ahead, followed by several important days of recovery. We welcome all the good thoughts, crossed fingers, and well wishes as we wait to bring him safely home.

We are also incredibly grateful to share that Hex’s heart surgery is fully funded, thanks to the generosity of our community of donors, his future adopters, and the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This moment truly belongs to all of you.

None of this would be possible without our dedicated fosters, adopters, donors, and veterinary partners. This is what community looks like, and we are so thankful to be walking this journey together. 💙

Hex Update - Fundraising Goal Met! * February 1, 2026

In moments like this, we’re reminded why this work matters and why community is at the center of everything we do.

When we shared Hex’s situation, the timeline was tight and the need was urgent. What followed was an outpouring of kindness and support that genuinely moved us. The response for Hex was not just generous—it was reassuring. It reminded us that behind every rescue story is a network of people who care deeply and step forward when it matters most.

Because of you, Hex is moving forward with a full team behind him.

Hex himself remains blissfully unaware of just how many people are invested in his future. He’s busy being his usual sweet, curious, slightly goofy self—content, comfortable, and well cared for. While he doesn’t know what’s ahead, he doesn’t have to. That’s our job, and thanks to this community, he won’t face it alone.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported Hex, shared his story, donated, and sent encouragement. Your belief in him—and in our mission makes a real and lasting difference.

We’ll continue to share updates on Hex’s journey in the coming days. For now, please know how thankful we are to be part of a community that consistently shows up with compassion and heart.

Help Us Raise $1,500 for Hex’s Life-Saving Heart Surgery 💗January 30, 2026

We are currently fundraising $1,500 toward the cost of Hex’s final heart surgery - the last step needed to permanently repair a congenital heart defect and give him the chance at a long, healthy life.

Hex was born with a condition called Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), which causes abnormal blood flow through his heart. While serious, it is also one of the few heart defects that can be fully corrected with surgery.

Last spring, thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, Hex underwent his first heart procedure. At the time, his heart was too fragile to safely complete the repair. Surgeons made the careful decision to stabilize him instead, allowing him time to grow stronger before attempting the final correction.

And stronger he became.

Over the past year, Hex has thrived in foster care, first in a medical foster home and later in a foster-to-adopt placement. From the moment he arrived, it was clear he had found his people. His foster family jokes that they were “Hexed” on day one. He adores their senior dog, welcomes visiting cats, and has fully claimed his place in their home and hearts. They are ready to make his adoption official.

There is just one remaining step: the final surgery to close the defect in his heart for good.

Veterinary specialists are optimistic that once this procedure is complete, Hex will be able to live a normal, happy life with no additional heart surgeries needed. Reaching this point is something we are incredibly grateful for.

The total cost of this surgery is approximately $6,000. A generous sponsor has stepped forward, but matching funds are required to move forward. Hex’s foster family is contributing, and we are now asking our community to help us close the remaining gap.

Our goal is to raise $1,500 by February 3rd.

If you are able to help, whether through a donation or by sharing Hex’s story, you are giving him the opportunity to cross the finish line and begin his forever life, healthy and whole.
